Hey and welcome here at boehnhas!
Since I can hold a pen, I am convinced: I can comprehend my surrounding and myself (and how this surrounding and myself interact) better with pictures. I draw what I see and I try to translate what's up in my head into pictures. Well dosed, of course.
Sometimes it is a smudgy sketch, a print, a comic. Sometimes even I don't understand it myself. And sometimes it's just cute.
Laura Pérez, a Spanish illustrator, recently spoke of a "unique reality", that every Person calls it's own.
Isn't it terrific, that we can share our very individual perceptions with each other? That we can write or sing us about it, or - if you prefer - dance it out or just draw pictures of it? And through this, show each other a piece of our own, absolute unique world and the way we experience it?
However, there lies the danger, right? What will the others think? Of my work? Of me? That's the point where it means to be brave. I decided for myself that exposure is an important part of my development.
So here I am.
This and many more I have learned from the great Lynda Barry:
"Liking and not liking can make us blind to what's there. In spite of how
we feel about it, it is making its way from the unseen to the visible world, one line after the next, bringing with it a kind of aliveness I
live for: Right here, right now."
(in: "Syllabus", p. 23)
So be brave, jump in and show!
And because I also love making relief printing - beside the drawing, painting, sketchbooking, comic making etc., I have decided at one point, that I want to concentrate more and more on linocut printing. Because that is a thing I figured out myself: Even if you have no idea in the beginning - you get better the more you practice.
On the boehnhas website you will find the gallery as an overview of my work - mainly the linocuts. I am still at the beginning of my journey and hoping to present more pictures soon. Some of the prints are also available in my Etsy shop .
Let's go on this adventure!
